Sierra Christian School is located in the heart of Stockton, California. It was established in 1978 by a group of Christians from the local churches of Christ with the goal of providing quality Christian education. The school is housed on the campus of Central Church of Christ. While a ministry of Central, Sierra is a separate non-profit corporation, with its own board of directors.
There were approximately fifty-six students enrolled when Sierra Christian School opened its doors in 1978. At that time, there were three teachers, each teaching combination classes. Over time the school has grown to one class per grade level (Kindergarten – 8th Grade) averaging 140 students enrolled with ten full-time teachers, many of them credentialed.
The school has gone through many changes since it began over thirty years ago. As it has developed and grown, the focus has remained to provide families with a quality education that focuses on growing Christians, developing critical thinkers, nurturing academic achievers, and fostering effective communicators who partner with the community.
Some highlights of a school year at Sierra Christian School are the Fall Festival, the Christmas Program, Spiritual Emphasis month, weekly chapel, Grandparents Day, Science Fair, and Field Day. Each student attends weekly Spanish and technology classes. The 6th Grade class spends a week at Science Camp each year. The 7th and 8th Grade classes take a trip to Washington D.C. every two years. Opportunities for activities after school include sports (such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball), dance, art, crafts, and newspaper. SCS is blessed by the involvement of Prayer Warriors and an Advisory Committee who assist us in attaining our goals for the school.
With over thirty years of history and experience, SCS has become one of the most respected and successful private Kindergarten – 8th Grade schools in San Joaquin County. Our school is dedicated to the development of excellence in Christian commitment and character through an emphasis on a Christ-centered, academically challenging education.
